Dawson gone
West Ham United have accepted an offer from Wolverhampton Wanderers for centre half Craig Dawson.

The experienced defender has been looking to move closer to his family in the north since the end of last season and appears to have finally been granted his wish.

The 32-year-old, who cost West Ham around £2million when moving from Watford on a permanent basis upon the conclusion of a season-long loan deal at the end of the 2020/21 season will cost the Black Country club in the region of £3.5million.

Re: Dawson gone
Can we loan him back now Zouma has picked up another injury?

He was a second choice signing. Never thought we would make a profit on him. Turns out he was better then Maguire and Tarkowski. Should have been selected for England.

Re: Dawson gone
Like others have said was a great signing for what he cost but I do feel a few outstanding performances masked a lot of mistakes. We will def be much weaker at set prices as he was so dominant in the air but strangely he actually couldn’t head the ball very well, if he could of he’d probably scored 10-15 goals a season. I for one am glad he’s gone now as it was time to move on, but he was a great servant in his short spell here

Bit of a mistake letting him leave now.

Should have kept him till the end of the season.

Wish him well. Done far better for us than I ever expected. Good pro.

Re: Dawson gone
Wish him all the best, so long as that doesn't entail Wolves staying up at our expense.

Surprisingly good, leaves a hole in the squad. I'd be surprised if it wasn't possible to replace him with better, but this is West Ham, so we probably won't bother.

After all, fortune never hides, does it? So we won't need a replacement...

Dubious about hom coming initially but has been a rock at the back and a not insignificant goal threat from set pieces. Good luck at Wolves!

Re: Dawson gone
Had his limitations but served us well and I liked the way he put himself about. Glad he came to us. I do worry about our CB situation as they all seem very injury prone and now our first back up is fucking Kehrer, which is terrifying.

Gave 100% for us which can’t be said for a number of players.

Good luck to him.

Very articulate. Sky Sports News will be on the phone any time now with the offer of a pundit role.

you have to be a proper snide cunt to have a bad word to say about this bloke, there's so many in the fan base

Re: Dawson gone
I think most level-headed fans just appreciate the great job that Dawson has done for us since he joined, especially when you consider the many players we’ve had who, quite frankly, didn’t give a shit.

Nobody thinks that Dawson is ‘Costacurta’ and every single West Ham fan knows that he has an error in him. That’s why he only cost us £2m. However, the errors were outweighed by the amount of great things he did for us and the fact that he played for the badge and left everything out on the pitch.

Dawson played a huge part in our successful couple of seasons and that commands respect. It’s as simple as that. He stepped up when he needed to and he clearly improved as a player in his later years.

Again, nobody at all thinks that Dawson is among the top centre halves in the Premier League, or even in our squad. The vast majority are grateful for the contribution he made, despite his limitations, and he’s earned the right to move back near his home with our good wishes.

I struggle to see how anyone can have anything but good things to say about Dawson and his time with us. He gave a shit.

Re: Dawson gone
Great pro and seemed like a good bloke. Sorry to see him go. Understand why he wanted to and it seems like on good terms.

The ones we still have are all better footballers but don’t really have that old school no nonsense leadership physical quality that you seem to need. They all seem more ‘finesse’ players. We are weakened at set pieces at both ends of the pitch and it is a bit of a worry that with their track records one or more of them gets injured and we are struggling for bodies again. Audible groan round the stadium yesterday when Zouma’s knee appeared to go in the first half and he looked fucked. Fuck knows what happened but at least it seemed ok.

We really need to get another centre back in before the end of the window because we are one injury away from kehrer or a full back being in the rotation there or in the side full stop if he wants to play three.
